Trails

April 2022 – The City of Big Rapids is proud to announce that they are officially a Pure Michigan Trail Town!

Whether you are looking for a place to hike, bike, snowmobile or snowshoe Mecosta County has the trail for you.  From a leisurely stroll while taking in scenic views or if you are up for more of a challenging adventure, we can point you in the right direction for the trail that is right for you.

Explore nature at its finest with your kids at Clay Cliffs. Enjoy the award-winning Riverwalk with its planked walkway along the Muskegon River and providing access to all or take a shot at slaying Michigan’s Dragon Trail. Once completed, the Dragon will be a connecting 47-mile Mountain Biking trail that is sure to be an outdoor adventure destination. Sections of this trail are currently open for use.

DNR Trails

Protect Michigan Trails by not using them when muddy. Riding or walking on a muddy trail destroys the surface. It leaves ruts/deep holes, uneven tire and footprints, contributes to erosion and creates a hard-to-fix trail surface. Hint: If you are leaving visible bicycle ruts, deep footprints or hoof tracks the trail is too muddy.
