Schuberg's Bar

Schuberg's Bar & Grill has poured beer at 109 N Michigan Ave in downtown Big Rapids since 1933, when Carl Schuberg served the first one, making it one of Michigan's oldest bars still in business. Brad and Jenn Rumsey have run it since 2015, continuing a chain of ownership that's stayed close to home for over ninety years. The kitchen is built around its "Schu" burgers, including the Bacon Cheddar Schu Burger and the Egg-Cellent Schu Burger, alongside the Super Yooper and a Brew Burger topped with beer cheese on a pretzel bun. The Tipsy Dip sandwich, piled with roast beef and onions on a toasted beer cheese sub roll, rounds out the menu alongside homemade chili and a house salad. Schuberg's is the official burger of Ferris State Athletics, and MLive ranked it #9 on Michigan's Top 10 Burgers, with MSN naming it one of the 25 Iconic Hamburger Spots You Have to Visit. The original locally made furniture and pine-covered walls are still in place, along with framed liquor license documents dating back to 1939. Locals return for the history as much as the burgers, and visitors passing through Big Rapids will find a genuine slice of the city's past still slinging beers and burgers today.
