Winter Ventures: Make a Snowman Snowflake is part of Winter Ventures, a free educational program series presented by Big Rapids Parks and Recreation for students in first through fifth grade. Designed to keep kids learning and engaged during the winter months, Winter Ventures offers hands-on activities that blend creativity, problem-solving, and discovery in a fun, welcoming environment.

Throughout the Winter Ventures series, children explore a variety of topics ranging from art and science to engineering and critical thinking. Program partners include Artworks, where young artists learn to create 3D snowflakes; the Big Rapids Police Department, which introduces students to crime-solving through science; and 4-H, where participants design and test wind-powered cars. Each session provides a unique learning experience while encouraging curiosity and confidence.

The Make a Snowman Snowflake session focuses on winter-themed creativity, allowing kids to craft their own snowman-inspired snowflakes while building fine motor skills and artistic expression. Sessions are offered by grade level to ensure age-appropriate instruction.

This weeks program takes place at the Big Rapids Community Library, located at 426 S. Michigan Avenue in Big Rapids.

Advance registration is required and available online at brpr.org.

Winter Ventures is a great option for families looking for free, educational winter activities in Mecosta County, offering children the chance to learn, create, and connect with their community.
