Holocaust & Art as Resistance Exhibition at Ferris State University
805 Campus Dr
Big Rapids, MI 49307
experience a powerful and thought-provoking cultural exhibition this January at Ferris State University. The Ferris Fine Art Gallery will present Holocaust & Art as Resistance and is located on the Ferris State University campus.
Developed by the Zekelman Holocaust Center, this traveling exhibition brings an important piece of Michigan history and global perspective to West Michigan audiences who may not have the opportunity to visit the center’s permanent museum in southeast Michigan. The exhibition is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., making it an accessible stop for visitors exploring Big Rapids and Mecosta County.
The exhibition is organized into two interconnected sections. One section uses historical photographs, documents, and interpretive text to examine the rise of the Nazi Party, the expansion of state-sponsored policing and surveillance, and the creation of concentration and extermination camps. The second section highlights art created during the Holocaust, emphasizing creativity as a form of resistance, survival, and human expression in the face of oppression.
This exhibition is ideal for travelers interested in arts and culture, history, education, and meaningful travel experiences in Michigan. While visiting, guests can also enjoy downtown Big Rapids, local dining, and nearby outdoor recreation along the Muskegon River.
For those planning a winter getaway in West Michigan, Holocaust & Art as Resistance offers a compelling reason to include Big Rapids and Ferris State University on your itinerary.
