If you are interested in birding but cannot yet tell the difference between a Merlin and a Waxwing, Birding 101 is the perfect place to begin. Birding is a rewarding way to explore nature, improve mood, increase concentration, and reduce mental fatigue while spending time outdoors.

Join local ornithologist Joe Lipar, a member of the Bird City Big Rapids Task Force, for an engaging presentation designed for beginners. Joe is a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Ferris State University and brings expertise in physiological and behavioral ecology. As part of the Bird City initiative, he has also led community bird walks at Northend Riverside Park.

Participants will leave with practical tips and resources, including how to attract birds, recommended equipment, common obstacles for new birders, and ways to learn more about the birds you may see and hear in the Mecosta County area.

This event also includes opportunities to enjoy a special artist reception for Justin Kellner, view the Immanuel Lutheran Church exhibit, and meet John Warner, winner of the public art contest.

Ideal for nature lovers, families, and curious beginners, Birding 101 offers a welcoming introduction to the wonderful world of birdwatching in Mecosta County.
