Step into a bold and imaginative world at a special artist and author presentation featuring the indie comic “Tyrannosaur.” Created by writer Ted Halm and illustrator Mikey Mumah, this original work blends dark satire, science fiction, and visual storytelling to explore humanity’s impact on the planet through a fantastical lens.

“Tyrannosaur” imagines a new world order in which prehistoric predators awaken after 65 million years of suspended animation to reclaim the Earth. As the giant beasts march across two continents toward the foothills of the Himalayas, they force both humans and animals into submission, scavenging for survival while challenging mankind’s dominance. The story serves as both an environmental allegory and a tribute to childhood imagination, inspired by a young boy’s discovery of a toy T-Rex submerged in a neighborhood swamp.

During this event, Halm and Mumah will guide visitors through each panel of the comic’s original artwork, offering behind-the-scenes insight into the creative process. The creators will also present the story in spoken word, bringing the narrative to life in a unique, immersive format.

Ted Halm spent 40 years in university relations at Ferris State University, earning national and regional recognition for his writing before turning his focus to fiction and poetry in retirement. Mikey Mumah is a freelance illustrator with more than 30 years of experience, with work featured in newspapers, children’s books, comics, and tabletop role-playing games, including projects for Wet Ink Games, Third Eye Games, and Palladium Books. Their creative partnership spans three decades, including collaborative work at Ferris State University during the early days of the internet.

This event is ideal for fans of comics, visual art, spoken word, and speculative storytelling, as well as anyone interested in creative collaboration and independent publishing in Mecosta County.
