Classic film lovers are invited to enjoy Matinees with Barbara: An Alfred Hitchcock Movie Sampler, a special film series presented as part of the 2026 Festival of the Arts. Curated and hosted by local movie historian and film aficionado Barbara Pillsbury, this series builds on her popular monthly matinees, which began in August 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

This Festival of the Arts edition features weekly screenings of four iconic films by Alfred Hitchcock, widely regarded as the “master of suspense.” Each selection highlights Hitchcock’s signature storytelling, psychological tension, and unforgettable performances, offering both longtime fans and new viewers a chance to experience classic cinema on the big screen.

Film schedule includes:

  • February 5 – Saboteur (1942): A man falsely accused of sabotage goes on the run to clear his name, starring Robert Cummings, Norman Lloyd, and Priscilla Lane.

  • February 12 – Dial M for Murder (1954): A London playboy plots the perfect crime against his unfaithful wife, starring Ray Milland, Grace Kelly, and Robert Cummings.

  • February 19 – The Birds (1963): A quiet coastal town descends into chaos when birds begin attacking residents, starring Rod Taylor, Tippi Hedren, and Jessica Tandy.

  • February 26 – North by Northwest (1959): A New York advertising executive is mistaken for a government agent and pursued across the country, starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, and James Mason.

As a special Valentine’s Day bonus, Barbara will also present:

  • Saturday, February 14 – Random Harvest (1942): A romantic drama following an amnesiac World War I veteran and the life he builds before his memories return, starring Ronald Colman and Greer Garson.

Held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, this series offers a welcoming and educational experience, with historical context and commentary that enrich each screening. Ideal for fans of classic movies, film history, and Festival of the Arts programming in Mecosta County, Matinees with Barbara celebrates the enduring power of cinema and storytelling.
