Experience an evening of timeless music with Shadows & Light: The Music of Joni Mitchell, a heartfelt tribute honoring the legendary singer, songwriter, musician, and visual artist. Presented by Detroit vocalist Olivia Van Goor and Lansing drummer Jeff Shoup, this performance brings new life to Joni Mitchell’s genre-defying catalog, with a special focus on her jazz-inspired work from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

Inspired by Mitchell’s boundary-pushing songwriting and innovative collaborations, Shadows & Light draws its name and musical selections from her iconic 1979 live tour and album. That era featured an all-star lineup of jazz legends, including Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Lyle Mays, Michael Brecker, and Don Alias. The ensemble channels the spirit of creative exploration that defined Mitchell’s work while honoring the depth, complexity, and emotional power of her music.

Olivia Van Goor and Jeff Shoup are joined by an accomplished group of musicians, including Mia Chinni on guitar, Matt Ryan on bass, Lisa Sung on piano, and Jon Gewirtz on saxophones, creating a rich and dynamic performance experience.

Following the concert, guests are invited to a dessert reception in the fellowship hall to celebrate the opening of the 2026 Festival of the Arts, offering an opportunity to connect with fellow attendees and continue the evening in a relaxed, social setting.

Ideal for fans of live music, jazz-influenced performances, and tribute concerts in Mecosta County, Shadows & Light offers a memorable night that celebrates musical legacy, artistic innovation, and community connection.
