2026 Festival of the Arts Closing Concert with FSU Band and Orchestra
901 S. State Street
Big Rapids, MI 49307
Join us for the 2026 Festival of the Arts Closing Concert, featuring Ferris State University’s West Central Concert Band, under the direction of Micah Laird, and the Ferris State University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Atwood. Together, these ensembles present “Music of Landscapes and Light,” a program inspired by the serene beauty of open spaces, folk traditions, and the pastoral rhythms of rural life.
This concert invites audiences into the world of pastorale music, celebrating compositions shaped by the earth, its quiet landscapes, and the people who give those places their stories. It is a moving and uplifting finale to the Festival season, showcasing the talent and dedication of Ferris State’s instrumental musicians.
These ensembles are part of Ferris State’s Music for Life! initiative, which provides meaningful performance opportunities for students and helps them transition into lifelong participation in community and amateur music-making. Although Ferris State has no formal music major, students and community members alike are encouraged to continue their passion through a wide range of ensembles that welcome new members, alumni, and local music lovers.
Perfect for fans of live orchestral music, band concerts, and cultural arts events in West Michigan, this closing concert offers a beautiful way to conclude the Festival of the Arts.
