Name: Willful Women After Hours Writing Workshop
    Date: February 18, 2020
    Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM EST
    Event Description:
Anna Howard Shaw, Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Florence Nightengale, Sally Ride, Susan B. Anthony, Clara Barton, Harriet Tubman, Soujourner Truth, Marie Curie, and the list goes on – all familiar names of women who changed history, who broke through barriers. Our world is a different place today because of them. We all have our personal heroes as well – mothers, grandmothers, eccentric aunts, mentors, and teachers, whose examples inspired us and served as role models.

In celebration of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial, August 26, 2020, Artworks will be hosting an exhibit entitled “Willful Women,” which will feature the stories of the women who changed history both on a state and local level. Along with these stories, we would like to include personal stories from community members. We would like to hear the stories of women who served as role models, who inspired us, who made an impact.

If you have a story to tell, please join us for the first session on February 4, and if possible, bring a photo of the woman you will write about. This workshop, coordinated by FSU Professor of English Roxanne Cullen, will offer some tips on writing the story, as well as provide a little more background about the exhibit.

The second session will feature a panel of local leaders, including Mecosta County Commissioners Marilynn Bradstrom, Wendy Nystrom, and Jerrilynn Strong, Big Rapids City Commissioners Jennifer Cochran and Lorraine James, and Big Rapids Public Schools Board member Michelle Rasmussen. We invite you to hear the stories of these women who have chosen to be public servants. Hear about their personal heroes who served as role models or simply inspired them.
