Things to Do

If you are an outdoor enthusiast this is the place to be! From biking to hiking, snowshoeing to snowmobiling, hunting and fishing, horseback riding and golf – just to mention a few. Mecosta County boasts of it’s over 100 lakes, many having great facilities for swimming, fishing and boating.
Chippewa Lake is the largest natural lake and is located about 12 miles northeast of Big Rapids. The Muskegon River runs the full length of the county and is also the 2nd longest river in Michigan stretching over 219 miles in length. It has been ranked among the top 20 Rivers by Field & Stream for fishing as well as being ranked in the top 12 by National Geographic for recreation. No wonder we are known as the “tubing capital of Michigan.”
